Just a quick post today, relating to something I found monday night, regarding the LG phone that has been announced to run Windows Mobile 7.

I have just stumbled across what this phone will be packing hardware-wise (and yes forgive me if I’m slow).

So far we have news on the 1.3 GHz Qualcomm processor! Just to give you some idea of how powerful this is, it’s almost on par the the Intel Atom processors that companies such as Asus put in their Netbooks, clocking at 1.6GHz. In a device 1/10th the size, 1.3GHz is a staggering speed!

LG’s Windows Mobile 7 Phone.

LG logoLG Electronics have been working on their own device, which they plan to run Windows Mobile 7, and they are saying that it will be available in September 2010,providing we see WinMo 7 sometime before then. If not then I would expect it to be running WinMo 6.6.

There have been rumours, however, of delaying WinMo 7 until 2011. Yet another possible delay from the people at Microsoft. Still LG are possibly the only maker to announce a month for their phone to be running WinMo 7.

One thing I think we can expect from LG’s device is that it will look stunning. I think every one of their phones I have seen I would be happy owning myself, just based on the looks! And if it is going to be running WinMo 7 it will need to be punching some high numbers.

Windows-Mobile-71

As consumers wait the long years for Windows Mobile 7 to show it’s face, we can all be entertained and happy (?) with the new Windows Mobile 6.6!

The main feature of this update is that WinMo 6.6 will be updated to allow for the full capacitive touch screen experience. Some users have expressed disappointment with certain previous versions of WinMo 6. I expect we will see the 6.6 update soon, as MS just recently updated WinMo 6.5 to 6.5.3, but how much longer will we have to wait for WinMo 7?

It does seem however that the competition for smart-phones in the market is taking it’s toll on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile, with Vodafone dropping the Xperia X2 from their 2010 catalogue saying the device was too hard to deal with, and I expect other devices will follow across the board. The HD2 was even moved from their direct sales and is now only available to business buyers.

HTC HD2 and WIndows Mobile 7

htc_touch_hd2-140Yet another gem about the HTC HD2, and as my source says, the HD2 is “almost certainly” getting the WinMo7 upgrade.

It’s not really surprising given the facts for this device that it should be one of the first to get the update, as I have mentioned in my previous reports it’s the only device so far (at least to my knowledge) that has met with Microsoft’s “hardware requirements”.

So we can expect to see the HD2 “almost certainly” supporting WinMo 7 sometime soon. I think the next step would be for us to wait until the people at Microsoft give the thumbs up for WinMo 7, seeing as it has been pushed back a fair few times.

Coming to a screen in your pocket… Xbox LIVE!

Xbox liveAs you may remember, just after Christmas I made a short bulletin about Xbox LIVE “maybe” coming to your mobile phone screens. And now it looks like it WILL be coming our way in the future.

It has now been officially announced and will be called “Xbox LIVE Games” and will be supported on Windows based mobile smartphones, so far anyway. The only announced list of devices that can support this new and exciting feature is limited to devices running Windows Mobile software. It has not been mentioned that it will be an “Exclusive” thing, or that it will “Only” appear on WinMo devices. Does this mean that Microsoft are limiting their market by only supplying this service to WinMo devices? or will this awesome new feature be more widely available as time goes on?

Admittedly it is very exciting news being able to have a mobile link to your Xbox live account where ever you go, also i think we can all expect to have some form of Microsoft points system shared with your mobile phone, like being able to buy games FOR your phone FROM Xbox live.

I’ll bring more updates as I get hold of them.

So, unsurprisingly without much of a fuss Microsoft showcased Windows Mobile 6.5.3 at CES (on a Toshiba TG01). Many feel its what 6.5 should have been, they’ve included some visual enhancements and made the UI more finger friendly. The changes are welcome but i think i speak for all Windows Mobile enthusiasts when i say what we really wanted to see is Windows Mobile 7. Thanks Microsoft but i think its time you show us how Windows Mobile 7 is coming along!
