LG’s Windows Mobile 7 phone, now called the “Apollo” will be available in September 2010 according to sources. You may recall my post last month revealing the specs on the phone, just to jog your memory the 1.3GHz processor and 1GB of ROM and 1GB of RAM.
Since then I have been reading rather a lot about WinMo7, as I’m sure many of you have been. One rumour I heard was that the HTC HD2 will no longer receive the WinMo7 upgrade?!
What we do know is that the Apollo will be the first LG device to get WinMo 7. And that the device really is a powerhouse.

So over the past few days the World Mobile Conference took place and there were several big announcements. As you know the Windows Phone 7 Series was announced, and I did give a brief description of how the system looks and works in my previous post.
The other BIG news revolved around the Smartphone giants, HTC, announcing 3 new devices. 2 are running the Android OS and the other will support WinMo 6.5.

The WMC started today, and already the news is flowing about upcoming handsets from several different manufacturers. And of course the big announcement about the Windows 7 Phone. Now revealed to be known as the Windows Phone 7 Series.
One big name that will certainly be using Microsoft's new OS is HTC, the brand everyone thinks to when they hear “smartphone”.
Microsoft are promising a lot with this new system, saying that they will make a phone to reflect the speed of peoples lives. But what can we expect to see from it?

It seems like we have some info now of the style interface that the Zune phone could be running. It will be a Windows Mobile 7 based platform, but is the image showing just the Zune UI?
It also seems that Microsoft won’t try and 1-up on the iPhone since the Zune will not offer any multitasking. There are rumours however that the Zune phone will offer faster browsing speeds, and no flash support (at this time). But that is all I have been able to find out so far.
Other features the Zune will include are interesting. You will be able to sync the device with your Xbox Live account, Download apps via the market place and the Zune phone will have synchronising software based on the Zune sync software too. But will lack the backwards compatibility…

It’s no secret that WinMo 6.5.3 has shown its face recently… But for those of you wondering, what extra features does it give users?
- Capacitive touchscreen support
- Touch controls throughout minimising stylus usage.
- Horizontal Scroll bar (no more tabs!)
- Magnifier
- Error reporting Fixes
- Internet Explorer page load times decreased
- Internet Explorer memory management improved
- Internet Explorer Pan & Flick gestures smoothed out
- Internet Explorer Zoom & Rotation speed increased
- Drag and Drop Icons on start screen
… to list the biggest changes. Still no news however, on Windows Mobile 7 seeing as it was pulled from Microsoft’s event’s agenda. Maybe 6.5.3 will be the last update before we finaly get to see Windows Mobile 7!

I have just found out that the Windows Mobile 7 item, that was added the the Microsoft “Events Agenda” is no longer appearing or listed?
Could this be because they plan to delay the release of WinMo 7 yet again? Or was the information put up by mistake in the first place?
One thing is for sure, there will be many people that want to know why Microsoft have done this!

It has been announced that Windows Mobile 7 is going to start appearing as an item on the Microsoft event planners. So it looks like we will finally get a look in on what the new system will offer to users!
We could also expect to see the UI that the Zune phone will be running, as it is promised to be a “Zune based UI” running off of WinMo 7.
After these scheduled announcements we can expect the news on WinMo 7 to be pretty free flowing with definite answers on the feel of the OS rather than just rumours on what it could be like.

Microsoft are getting ready to fight back by teaming with some OEM manufacturers. Lets see if they can make their Windows Mobile range more friendly.
You may have seen the post I made yesterday about the Zune phone, and that it will be a Windows Mobile device, but hopefully Microsoft can make the device more appealing by teaming with these OEM manufacturers.
Rumours have also appeared that the new Windows Mobile 7 will be much friendlier to use and offer “a more Zune-like” experience. If Microsoft can do this successfully then WinMo 7 will definitely be more user friendly, and it would also be a perfect match up for their Zune phone (which could be what they are designing it for?). So maybe Microsoft are still in with a fighting chance at building their fan-base back up.
